There are two distinct styles of cabinet construction: framed cabinets and European style (frameless). Framed cabinets are constructed with a frame around the cabinet opening, to which the doors are attached, leaving the hinges in sight. The frame around the cabinet and drawer openings is necessary to hold the cabinet together.
In European style cabinets, the frames are eliminated. Instead of attaching the doors to a frame, they are connected directly to the cabinet side walls, hiding the hinges, creating a seamless effect. Frameless cabinets are built to a higher quality standard, because they must hold together without the support of the face-frame.
