Cabinet Construction Styles

There are two distinct styles of cabinet construction: framed cabinets and European style (frameless). Framed cabinets are constructed with a frame around the cabinet opening, to which the doors are attached, leaving the hinges in sight. The frame around the cabinet and drawer openings is necessary to hold the cabinet together.

In European style cabinets, the frames are eliminated. Instead of attaching the doors to a frame, they are connected directly to the cabinet side walls, hiding the hinges, creating a seamless effect. Frameless cabinets are built to a higher quality standard, because they must hold together without the support of the face-frame.

Why Choose European style?

There are many reasons why frameless cabinets are a better solution than face-frame cabinets:

More Space:

By eliminating the frame from the cabinet face, we open up the interior. The doors are attached to the cabinet walls, so they are closer together. Furthermore, the doors don't require a center style on the frame in order to close completely. These techniques allow unobstructed access to the interior, and increase space availability. In a typical 12-inch cabinet, a frameless entry will free up 1 ½ inches of horizontal space.

Better Quality:

A frameless entry places more stress on the rest of the cabinet. To compensate, European style cabinets must be built with higher quality materials than framed cabinets, and requires skilled craftsmanship and precise construction, which will give the customer years of worry-free cabinets.

Attractive Design:

European design offers many artistic advantages over framed cabinets. This style allows minimizing of space between cabinet doors, providing a seamless, sophisticated, and attractive appearance. These cabinets are not limited to any particular design or style. Add raised panel or shaker style doors for a traditional look, or use smooth flat doors for a contemporary effect.
